Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common disease caused by degeneration of the articular cartilage and subchondral bone that most commonly affects spine, knees and hips.
The disease may initially manifest itself with articular pain and stiffness then evolving, into a reduced mobility together with loss of muscle tone and joint collagen

Several experimental and preclinical trials, international clinical trials and medical reports have confirmed the positive effects achieved through the oral administration of collagen hydrolysate (CH) - with the same molecular properties as Chondrovita - in individuals suffering from degenerative articular disease.

Various clinical trials, for a total of more than 2,000 patients suffering from confirmed hip and knee osteoarthrosis, have drawn attention not only to a statistically significant relief of pain and to a reduction of analgesic consumption, but also to an improvement of articular mobility in all patients who had been administered 10 g of CH per day at least for three months.

imilar results have been found in a series of observational studies concerning both people suffering from degenerative articular pain and athletes overloading their joints and who has articular micro-traumatic injuries. Even in these cases, the oral administration of CH has led to a significant relief of pain and an improvement of articular mobility.

Lastly, in vitro studies carried out on both human and animal chondrocytes have shown a dose-dependent increase in the synthesis of type II collagen (up to 2.5 times) and of proteoglycans in cell cultures supplemented with CH with respect to those just containing basal medium.

Pre-clinical studies

Preclinical studies indicate that CH stimulates the regeneration of cartilage tissues, increasing collagen and also minor components synthesis, (glycosaminoglycans, and hyaluronic acid). CHONDROVITA, has been shown to be absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and accumulate in the articular cartilage resulting in a statistically significant increase of the regeneration of articular collagen.

Clinical studies

Clinical studies show that a protracted oral intake of CH prevents not only joint pain, but also the loss of bone density and skin aging. Indeed Adams shows that patients suffering from degenerative osteoarthritis to the hip or knee joints and treated with CH, showed a reduction in pain from 81-85% accompanied by a reduction of more than 60% of analgesics intake if compared to the control group. Data have been confirmed in a further work of Moskowitz.
